The Human Subjects Office (HSO) at the University of Iowa is seeking an Institutional Review Board (IRB) Education and Outreach Specialist. This position will provide developmental and administrative assistance and expertise for the human subjects protection programs and services administered by the HSO.

The HSO Education and Outreach team is happy to announce updates that are now live covering HawkIRB and Human Subjects Research basics designed to allow selection specific modules without the sequential requirements of the Student PI training. The training includes 10 modules that are 30 minutes or less. 

Graduate and undergraduate student principal investigators (PIs) are required to view recorded trainings about the HawkIRB New Project form prior to submitting an application in HawkIRB.

Section VII changes as part of the HawkIRB application redesign project are now live.

Special HawkIRB Section VII. Office Hours on February 11th and 18th from 12:00 - 1:00 PM

IRS reporting changes will increase the threshold for IRS reporting requirements for human subjects research compensation.

This Professional and Scientific position will be filled as either a Conflict of Interest in Research (COIR) Analyst (PRD1) or Senior COIR Analyst (PRD2) based on candidate qualifications of the successful candidate. 

The Human Subjects Office holiday closure will be 12/24/25-12/28/25 and 12/31/25 @ 1:00pm-1/1/26.
