Multi-site studies, where study procedures are conducted at multiple sites, often receive approval through a single IRB. In a single IRB process, the UI IRB either relies on another IRB for oversight of UI research activities or serves as the IRB of record to oversee the conduct of the research at multiple sites. Whether the UI IRB is serving as the lead IRB of record or relying on another IRB, researchers are required to submit HawkIRB forms and follow institutional policies and procedures.

This HawkIRB training for an external IRB addresses the process for completing both types of HawkIRB applications for multi-site studies. Researchers should attend this presentation if they are conducting a multi-site study or plan to conduct a study that will require a single IRB process. Even if you have already filled out an external HawkIRB application, this presentation may provide guidance that will be useful for future submission of forms.

This presentation assumes a baseline knowledge of HawkIRB. Researchers should only attend if they have extensive experience with HawkIRB or have attended the “New Project” and “Modifications, CRs, REFs, and Closures” trainings.

NOTE: This presentation does not cover Western IRB (WIRB) or the National Central Institute Cancer IRB (NCI CIRB).

Pre-Registration is recommended.
